The major news outlet Bloomberg reported that in 2021 at least 40 residential properties sold for over $50 million across the country. They cite the source of data compiled by the appraisal company Miller Samuel.

This is said to be around an 835% increase in purchases of super-luxury homes over purchases made in the year 2020 which was also noted as a record year for luxury real estate. The surge in sales for this tier of real estate has been surprisingly unexpected by some real estate experts.

Some are attributing it to being fueled by the booming stock market and low mortgage interest rates coupled with a very large amount of homeowners spending a majority of their time in their houses. Staying in the lap of luxury was more highly sought out as people seek to actually spend time at home.

According to more information published by Miller Samuel’s data, the eight most expensive homes sold in 2021 each sold for $100 million or more and a good amount of those homes have been sold here in the state of Florida as well as fairly spread out in places across the country including Los Angeles, the New York metro area, and even ranches in Montana.

New York and Florida seem to lead the way in super-luxury home sales

There has been much talk of many people leaving higher-priced areas like New York for dream destinations here in Florida. New York has remained steady with Florida when it comes to the sale of super-luxury real estate.

New York just barely topped the list for the number of sales in this market of homes over $50 million with a total of 13. Florida came in just behind at 11. According to Miller Samuel, the value of New York real estate sold totaled around $931 million. In Florida, this number came in at roughly $941 million.

Of course, most of these super high-end luxury homes sold in the New York area were found to have been sold in the Long Island enclave of the Hamptons. In Florida, most super luxury sales were found to have sold in Palm Beach and Manaplan, which are both here and in South Florida.

For many, super-luxury homes and what features in those homes are most sought after, really depends upon the location. Homes in Montana that sold for the highest price points were all about land and acreage, homed in metro areas were all about the actual square footage or impressive high-end luxury amenities that kept people busy while inside their homes.

Any way you look at it, the luxury real estate market is staying strong which is a very good thing to keep driving real estate along in the most amazing and desirable locations across the country.
